STRENGTH

I have a friend who is a pretty good runner. For example, she recently ran 3k from her apartment to run a 5k race, came in first, and then ran 3k home with her medal. She came in 2nd in her age division in the Moscow Marathon last year. She got a last minute invitation to run in the Hollywood 10k because a cancellation opened a spot that had already been funded for transportation, lodging, etc. She flew from Moscow, Russia to Los Angeles, California, ran the race jet lagged and exhausted, with no real training, and finished 2nd in her division. So, she's a pretty good runner... But she is equally likely to be on the sideline of a race handing out water, encouraging runners, and generally cheering people on
I asked her if she ever considered becoming a professional runner. She said if running became her job, it would take the fun out of it. She wants to be able to have beer and pizza with her friends whenever she wants, not just when her training diet allows it. She runs for the sense of community, the camaraderie, the fellowship, and the joy that comes with encouraging others and helping them be a little bit faster, healthier, and happier than they were the day before. Running gives her strength.
Her chosen patronus is the Flash, from DC Comics. The Flash wears a lightning bolt across his chest, which is a symbol she has adopted as her own. So, this Strength Lightning Bolt necklace is the perfect gift for her, almost like it was custom made...  I can't wait to give it to her! -Kevin
